Synopsis:

Captain Marvel is devastated; it looks like breaking the Ultra-Humanite's hold over Johnny Thunder has killed the retired hero. Meanwhile, Sand confronts the Humanite, who exists now only as a brain. He narrowly prevents the Icicle from killing it, but the deed is instead done by the Crimson Avenger, who says that her predecessor's death has now been avenged, disappearing from the scene.
Johnny Thunder holds on to life long enough for his friends to bid him farewell. Jakeem then demands that the thunderbolt restore him, but it can neither kill nor return to life; however, it does know of one more option and merges itself with Johnny's soul so that he lives on as Johnny Thunderbolt. Jakeem gets him to reverse all the Humanite's wishes, meaning that everyone returns to where they were before this all began and the world is mostly put to rights, although everyone still remembers what they did, and the dead remain dead.
Later, Johnny's body is buried, Captain Marvel and Hourman join the JSA, and the Icicle makes it quite clear that he only acted alongside the heroes in order to save his own life.
