- The JLA answers a distress call which leads them to apparent evidence of horrible atrocities committed by the Martian Manhunter. Appearances by Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Steel, Huntress, and Jemm.
Synopsis: - A quartet of JLA members arrive at J'onn's sanctuary, source of a distress call received at the Watchtower. There they discover Jemm, who telepathically broadcasts memories of being tortured by the Martian Manhunter, a possibility that the JLA must investigate, however they feel about it. They pursue the malefactor to a strange facility where they discover "J'onn" carrying out genetic experiments on humans. When they reveal their presence to him, he attacks them. They barely escape with their lives and vow to hunt J'onn down. They are unaware, of course, that they have been dealing with a malicious impostor.
- Also, the Director of the DEO does not share Chase's confidence in J'onn's innocence of Karen Smith's murder and makes the Martian Manhunter her sole assignment.
