HISTORY

Brill within the Hive

Untold billions of years ago, Brill, the first "insulatusnaut," ventured beyond the safety of the Hive, a sprawling artificial intelligence network on Grenda. Taking physical form, Brill's mission was to seek out the Hive's creator. Initially overwhelmed by the solitude, Brill's initial steps were driven by the overcoming of fear. This quest led not to the creator, but to an encounter with a power ring which Brill carried within its chest.

This newfound connection soon drew Brill into contact with other newly chosen ring wielders. Gathered on Earth, this initial assembly, intended for collaboration, quickly fractured into conflict. The nascent power rings, lacking established safeguards, tragically resulted in the death of Jan-Al of Krypton.

Their training came from an unexpected source: the time-displaced Green Lanterns Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz from the future. While these human Lanterns imparted their knowledge to Brill and the others, the fledgling group remained fractured by their individual agendas, preventing them from functioning as a cohesive team.

It was the catastrophic destruction of the planet Zoron that served as a stark catalyst, finally galvanizing the disparate group around a shared sense of duty: to protect other worlds from suffering a similar horrific fate.

This newfound unity, however, proved tragically short-lived. The Lanterns arrived on Maltus, where their ensuing battle against the formidable Volthoom descended into brutal attrition, with members of their nascent corps falling one by one. Brill met its end in this devastating conflict when Volthoom violently tore the power ring from its chest. Volthoom was unable to take the ring for himself as Brill's ring chose Simon Baz as the new wielder.

Some time after Volthoom's defeat, Brill's remains were interred in the Vault of Shadows.
